Prolegomenon:
...a preliminary statement or discussion, especially introducing a work of length or complexity...

Prolegomenon was written especially for the Peabody Symphony Orchestra. It is a short, boisterous, overture-like work in which a meditative, amorphous andante alternates with raucous allegro and presto sections.

Reviews
-
In its color and rhythmic impetus, the work - which was beautifully played by the orchestra - demonstrated anew that the 35-year-old composer is one of this country's best.
